Preprints

Brazilian Dental Science is open to submissions of preprints. A preprint is defined as a manuscript ready for submission to a journal that is deposited on trusted servers, prior to or in parallel with submission to a journal. A reliable preprint server needs to have a transparent moderation policy, offer DOI to submitted preprints, allow changes, comments and community evaluation with researcher endorsement and interoperability with other services and platforms. Only submissions of work previously deposited on public server platforms that meet these reliability and transparency characteristics will be accepted.

The public platforms PreprintsSciELO Preprints and EmeRI are recommended for open discussion before approval and publication in the journal.

If the article is accepted and published in Brazilian Dental Science, the authors must update their registration on the preprint server, providing the full reference of the publication in the journal.

Commitment to Open Science and SciELO Criteria
In alignment with the principles of Open Science and the rigorous criteria established by SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), the Brazilian Dental Science journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of editorial quality and peer review for all submissions.

Editorial Process for Preprint Manuscripts
To ensure consistent quality and integrity across all published content, we wish to formally clarify the editorial process for manuscripts originating from preprint servers.

All manuscripts derived from preprints will be subjected to the identical and complete editorial process as those spontaneously and voluntarily submitted directly to the Brazilian Dental Science submission system. This comprehensive process includes, but is not limited to:

Initial Technical and Scope Screening: Assessment by the editorial office for compliance with the journal’s policies and scope.

Plagiarism Check: Rigorous evaluation using advanced detection tools.

Peer Review: A full, unbiased peer review process conducted by expert referees.

Editorial Decision: Final decision (Acceptance, Revision, or Rejection) by the Editor-in-Chief.

Copyediting and Galley Proofs: Preparation of the manuscript for final publication.

This measure guarantees that regardless of the submission source (direct submission or preprint server), every manuscript accepted for publication in Brazilian Dental Science fully meets the journal’s high scientific and ethical standards, thereby fulfilling the requirements set forth by SciELO for Open Science practices.
